This feature/piece
on most Nigerian Musicians suffering from Repetitive Strain (RSI) Injury on
their lips and thoughts has nothing to do with envy or putting down or
disrespecting any of them, I warn. Rather, it has to do with my admiration as a
fan for good music with clear synergy of both beat and lyrical prowess.
These days
what we have as music’s are one or two word liners with good beat, neglecting
the lyrical contents for showing luxury such as cars, wrist watch, endowed
ladies and gadgets etc. in videos.
For instance,
let’s look at Inyaya who recently
dumped RnB for AfroPop genre of music, has lost the touch of lyrical power and
has suffered from what I call the repetitive strain injury of the lips and
thoughts. Get it right, share in my opinion by looking at this his hit track “your
waist” the word (your waist) was repeated 63 times for the 4minutes
track, this repetition took over 2minutes 15seconds words like mpock
eto, ikot eto, I have ur medicine Yvonne Nelson lack clear meanings. The Jombolo track ft Flavour wasn’t
different in anyway.
Also, Solidstar
is a fan of one or two liner, the Afrobeat singer has been active since 2009
but hasn’t really improved from his one liner over hyped track One
in a million ft. 2face as the Shashiwowo ft Inyaya and Timaya
was no difference. From Solidstar we land on the young gobe grooner Davido, frankly speaking most of his tracks are one/two liners for example, the Skelewu song lacked lyrics. The word “skelewu” were repeated 55 times and irrelevant words such “like a this, Like a that” was repeated over 20 times in the 3minutes 40 seconds song. These two words/sentence took 2minutes 15seconds, what else was said in the track?

Furthermore,
Don jazzy is a chronic one liner. The Mavin records boss showed this in Some
more mode 9 ft Don jazzy due to Don’s poor lyrical ability he repeated
the word “some more” 33 times hmmmm kudos to Mode 9 who’s lyrical strength made
few to notice this jazzy weakness.
There are
many more Nigerian musicians suffering from this (Repetitive strain injury of
the lips and thoughts aka one/two line songwriters). I may not talk about them
explicitly but they know themselves. If I have space I would have analyzed the
following stars: Kcee – Limpopo, May D –
so many things, Phyno – kush music, Tonto Dike – Hi, Dr. Sid – So talented and
lots more so numerous to mention. Am not saying anyone is perfect, like my bro MI said some never ask for direction,
they seems to be Jesus knowing everything.
Say not
what of those one’s trying to put these synergy all together in their music’s,
worry not next week it will be their turn to be appreciated and recognized for
their ability to do good music with all the components complete and present.
